And so it begins…

I had every intention of blogging about everything leading up to this day… but here we are, in Amsterdam, so better late than never!

For those of you who don’t know, we plan to visit about seven countries over the next six months. Here is the rough plan…

October – South Africa

November – Australia

December – New Zealand

January – Indonesia

February – Thailand

March – China/Japan

You might be wondering why we’re skipping Europe or South America. The thought behind it was that while we have this extended amount of time away, it would be best spent seeing the furthest corners of the world. It seems much more doable to do a two week trip to someplace with an 8 hour flight rather than a 20 hour flight.

At this point we’ve pretty much booked the month of October in and around South Africa. Nothing past that. We’re flying into Johannasburg, will head over to Cape Town and then potentially rent a car and drive up the coast, hitting Port Elizabeth and some other places along the way. We’ll end up back in Johannasburg and fly up to Zimbabwe for a 4 night stay at the Stanley and Livingstone Safari Travel Lodge. After that we’ll head back to Johannasburg for a two week volunteer program. Diverse Wildlife Sanctuaries. Our booking is still pending – so more to come on that.
